It would have been easier, and faster, to develop with a traditional relational SQL database engine, many of which are available as freeware, shareware, or as open source. However, they are not as stable and not as effective for certain types of processes. Importantly, Caché technology is so fail-safe that no database administration staff is required, saving dollars both short-term and in the long run. Most SQL-only technologies will eventually require separate database support. Not Caché.
